I learnt about the Ancient Greek concept of aristeia (ἀριστεία) when reading Homeric epic at university; literally meaning a ‘moment of excellence’, it is used to describe scenes in which an epic hero has their finest moments (think Achilles in battle mode…).

After a decade working in inner city London schools, I set up Aristeia Learning as I wanted to support students beyond the school gates, and encourage them to find their own ‘moment of excellence’ - whatever that might mean for them.

Although I am a qualified Maths teacher, I read Classics at Cambridge before attending the Royal Academy of Music. I then joined the Teach First programme, completing my PGCE at the Institute of Education with an ‘outstanding’ grade.

I taught Maths and Latin at an Ofsted rated 'outstanding’ state secondary, later becoming a Lead Practitioner. My first cohort of Latin students all achieved an A or an A*, and my Maths classes consistently achieved progress scores of up to +1.45 - meaning students achieved, on average, almost one and a half grades higher than expected.

I later moved outside the classroom to focus on curriculum development - I contributed to the design of the Mathematics Subject Excellence Programme at Ark Curriculum Plus, as well as completing the MEI Teaching A Level Maths course. I’m also an accredited NCETM Professional Development Lead - and an Edexcel examiner.

I’m especially interested in offering courses that may not be available at mainstream schools - so if you want to learn all about the real story behind Gladiator, maybe you’d like to study Ancient History GCSE.

My goal is to support students on their journey to becoming more fulfilled and confident learners - and find their aristeia. If that sounds like a good fit, I’d love to hear from you.
